WKYC TV on-air meteorologist Hollie Strano pleaded guilty Thursday

WKYC TV on-air meteorologist Hollie Strano pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of an OVI

WKYC TV on-air meteorologist Hollie Strano pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of an OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor, after she crashed her car on Akron-Peninsula Road on Thanksgiving.

Cuyahoga Falls Mayor's Court Magistrate Alan Medvick ordered her to pay a fine of $375 and attend a six-day driver intervention program. Her license was also suspended for a year. She is eligible to apply for work-related driving privileges after Dec. 7.

Strano entered the empty courtroom at the end of the court session, after more than a dozen other defendants and their cases were dealt with.

Dressed in a black pantsuit, Strano stood at a podium before the magistrate, flanked by two attorneys who spoke on her behalf, asking Medvick to impose the mandatory minimum sentence for a first offense.

A report provided by the city said Cuyahoga Falls police were alerted to a possible intoxicated driver around 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and found Strano driving a 2023 Cadillac XT5 SUV outside of the lane. The officer reported he began following her as she allegedly reached 70 mph in a 35 mph zone heading toward the Akron border.

A dashcam video the department released shows an officer following a vehicle, which goes left over the center line before gradually veering the opposite direction until it drives off the right side of the road and strikes a utility pole.

Police said Strano had a blood alcohol level of 0.244%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%. She declined medical treatment after the crash and was released to a third party, police said.

Strano has been with WKYC for more than 20 years. She is a meteorologist and host on the WKYC Channel 3 News "GO" morning show from 4:30-7 a.m. on weekdays and the host of "It's About You" at noon on weekdays. She has not been on air since the incident.

Strano has been candid with viewers in the past about her struggles with anxiety and calls herself a "mental health advocate" on her Instagram profile.

Kraft’s newest Mac & Cheese is ditching cheese

Kraft’s newest Mac & Cheese is ditching cheese

Kraft’s new Mac & Cheese is ditching the cheese and going vegan.

For the first time ever, the household staple is going plant-based with a new version of the boxed favorite that contains a dairy-free alternative to its signature cheese. It’s called “Kraft NotMac&Cheese” and will soon roll out on grocery store shelves in two flavors — original and white cheddar with shells — each priced at $3.49 per box.

Kraft partnered with NotCo., a company that makes plant-based foods, to create the new mac and cheese alternative, which is in response the growing hunger for “better-for-you” products from American consumers.

The company is joining a growing trend: Plant-based product sales surged 19% last year to $11 billion, according to research firm NIQ.

But there’s a risk for Kraft, too: Customers who have tried dairy-free alternatives sometimes don’t like the taste – and they often don’t give brands a second chance.

“Curiosity is a major factor in trying plant-based foods and beverages,” Sherry Frey, vice president of Total Wellness at NIQ, told CNN. “Those who tried animal product alternatives once or twice but did not continue said taste was the biggest reason. This was highest for the dairy milk alternatives.”

Consumers continue to show interest in dairy-free alternatives, and NIQ anticipates the category will continue to grow.

After being closed for more than a year, Spaghetti Warehouse is set to reopen its downtown Columbus location on Thursday!

After being closed for more than a year, Spaghetti Warehouse is set to reopen Thursday!

After being closed for more than a year, Spaghetti Warehouse is set to reopen its downtown Columbus location on Thursday.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place at the new restaurant at 4:30 p.m. The restaurant is located at 150 S. High St.
In March 2022, the Spaghetti Warehouse sustained damage to its roof at its former location on West Broad Street after a partial collapse during repair work.

The company announced that the West Broad Street location would not reopen, but planned to come back "bigger, better and stronger than ever." Spaghetti Warehouse President Ron Reynolds said the coronavirus pandemic and the repairs needed to the previous location helped provide the company an opportunity to look at ways to reenergize the brand.

In April 2023, the restaurant announced its new location on South High Street near Columbus Commons. The iconic trolley car will be incorporated at the new location.
