Harvard University plans to offer course on Taylor Swift

Fans of Taylor Swift who attend Harvard University may be filling a "Blank Space" in their course schedule with a new course about the pop star's career.

Taught by Professor Stephanie Burt, a self-identified fan of Swift's work, Harvard's English Department will offer "Taylor Swift and Her World" for the first time this spring. The planned course will include diving into Swift's lyrics, music and influences.

"I love that I'm able to do this in a way that both gives people the chance to study and write about things they already love, and maybe build some bridges to things they would not have otherwise encountered that they might also love," Burt said.

Shannen Doherty says her cancer has spread to her bones: ‘I don’t want to die’

Shannen Doherty says her cancer has spread to her bones: ‘I don’t want to die’

Actress Shannen Doherty revealed her stage 4 breast cancer has spread to her bones, less than a year after it spread to her brain.

“I don’t want to die,” the “Beverly Hills, 90210″ star told People for a cover story published Wednesday.

She continued, “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better.”

The 52-year-old was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. In 2017, she revealed her cancer was in remission. But in 2019, it returned, and she was diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 cancer.

“When you ask yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I get cancer?’ and then ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?’ that leads you to look for the bigger purpose in life,” she said. “It’s insane to me we still don’t have a cure.”

She hopes to raise funds for cancer research and prove that people with cancer can still work and contribute.

“People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age – ‘You’re done, you’re retired,’ and we’re not,” she said. “We’re vibrant, and we have such a different outlook on life. We are people who want to work and embrace life and keep moving forward.”

Doherty’s dark humor led her to jokingly name her brain tumor Bob when her cancer spread earlier this year. In June, she revealed on Instagram that she had the surgery to remove the brain tumor five months earlier “He had to get removed and dissected to see his pathology,” she wrote at the time. “It was definitely one of the scariest things I’ve ever been through in my entire life.”

Now that the cancer is in her bones, the “Charmed” star is hoping to be accepted into clinical trials for new treatments.

“My greatest memory is yet to come,” she said. “I pray. I wake up and go to bed thanking God, praying for the things that matter to me without asking for too much. It connects me to a higher power and spirituality. My faith is my mantra.”

Cleveland native becomes new owner of ‘A Christmas Story’ House in Tremont

When you knock on the door to “A Christmas Story” House in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, you won’t find the Parker family inside...

But there’s officially a new owner of the popular tourist attraction to turn the infamous leg lamp light on. A Christmas Story House and Museum announced on Nov. 28 that it has reached an agreement for a change of ownership.

The current CEO, Joshua Dickerson, is taking an equity stake in the company to become Managing Partner, the company announced.

A Christmas Story House and Museum shared the following statement:

“A native Clevelander, Mr. Dickerson has been with the company for almost 16 years having assisted friends and family in their jobs at the company before being hired himself as a warehouse employee. Over the years Mr. Dickerson worked his way up to eventually become the CEO. While the face of the company has long been the founder, Brian Jones, the true work, and performance has been borne by Mr. Dickerson behind the scenes. It seemed only fitting that he should take the final step and become an owner. There are few things more fulfilling and rewarding in life than owning your own business. Congratulations Josh.”

Dickerson explains he has no plans to re-invent the wheel.

“Operations as normal. I know a lot of people were nervous. It’s staying in Cleveland, it’s staying open, I like to think we’re running a wonderful operation here so there’s really nothing to change.” he said. ” “I love all things Cleveland and it’s an awesome opportunity to represent something iconic and so known. I love this place, it’s part of me, it’s part of my family and I will take care of it like it’s one of my children. It’s an awesome opportunity,” said Dickerson.

The announcement comes just a couple weeks after the Greater Cleveland Film Commission is hosting Peter Billingsley, aka Ralphie, for Behind the Camera: “A Christmas Story” Official 40th Anniversary.

It was his first-ever public reunion with the cast since making the film, and his first-ever signing.
