WKYC TV on-air meteorologist Hollie Strano pleaded guilty Thursday

WKYC TV on-air meteorologist Hollie Strano pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of an OVI

WKYC TV on-air meteorologist Hollie Strano pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of an OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor, after she crashed her car on Akron-Peninsula Road on Thanksgiving.

Cuyahoga Falls Mayor's Court Magistrate Alan Medvick ordered her to pay a fine of $375 and attend a six-day driver intervention program. Her license was also suspended for a year. She is eligible to apply for work-related driving privileges after Dec. 7.

Strano entered the empty courtroom at the end of the court session, after more than a dozen other defendants and their cases were dealt with.

Dressed in a black pantsuit, Strano stood at a podium before the magistrate, flanked by two attorneys who spoke on her behalf, asking Medvick to impose the mandatory minimum sentence for a first offense.

A report provided by the city said Cuyahoga Falls police were alerted to a possible intoxicated driver around 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and found Strano driving a 2023 Cadillac XT5 SUV outside of the lane. The officer reported he began following her as she allegedly reached 70 mph in a 35 mph zone heading toward the Akron border.

A dashcam video the department released shows an officer following a vehicle, which goes left over the center line before gradually veering the opposite direction until it drives off the right side of the road and strikes a utility pole.

Police said Strano had a blood alcohol level of 0.244%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%. She declined medical treatment after the crash and was released to a third party, police said.

Strano has been with WKYC for more than 20 years. She is a meteorologist and host on the WKYC Channel 3 News "GO" morning show from 4:30-7 a.m. on weekdays and the host of "It's About You" at noon on weekdays. She has not been on air since the incident.

Strano has been candid with viewers in the past about her struggles with anxiety and calls herself a "mental health advocate" on her Instagram profile.

Kraft’s newest Mac & Cheese is ditching cheese

Kraft’s newest Mac & Cheese is ditching cheese

Kraft’s new Mac & Cheese is ditching the cheese and going vegan.

For the first time ever, the household staple is going plant-based with a new version of the boxed favorite that contains a dairy-free alternative to its signature cheese. It’s called “Kraft NotMac&Cheese” and will soon roll out on grocery store shelves in two flavors — original and white cheddar with shells — each priced at $3.49 per box.

Kraft partnered with NotCo., a company that makes plant-based foods, to create the new mac and cheese alternative, which is in response the growing hunger for “better-for-you” products from American consumers.

The company is joining a growing trend: Plant-based product sales surged 19% last year to $11 billion, according to research firm NIQ.

But there’s a risk for Kraft, too: Customers who have tried dairy-free alternatives sometimes don’t like the taste – and they often don’t give brands a second chance.

“Curiosity is a major factor in trying plant-based foods and beverages,” Sherry Frey, vice president of Total Wellness at NIQ, told CNN. “Those who tried animal product alternatives once or twice but did not continue said taste was the biggest reason. This was highest for the dairy milk alternatives.”

Consumers continue to show interest in dairy-free alternatives, and NIQ anticipates the category will continue to grow.

After being closed for more than a year, Spaghetti Warehouse is set to reopen Thursday!

After being closed for more than a year, Spaghetti Warehouse is set to reopen its downtown Columbus location on Thursday.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place at the new restaurant at 4:30 p.m. The restaurant is located at 150 S. High St.
In March 2022, the Spaghetti Warehouse sustained damage to its roof at its former location on West Broad Street after a partial collapse during repair work.

The company announced that the West Broad Street location would not reopen, but planned to come back "bigger, better and stronger than ever." Spaghetti Warehouse President Ron Reynolds said the coronavirus pandemic and the repairs needed to the previous location helped provide the company an opportunity to look at ways to reenergize the brand.

In April 2023, the restaurant announced its new location on South High Street near Columbus Commons. The iconic trolley car will be incorporated at the new location.

Harvard University plans to offer course on Taylor Swift

Fans of Taylor Swift who attend Harvard University may be filling a "Blank Space" in their course schedule with a new course about the pop star's career.

Taught by Professor Stephanie Burt, a self-identified fan of Swift's work, Harvard's English Department will offer "Taylor Swift and Her World" for the first time this spring. The planned course will include diving into Swift's lyrics, music and influences.

"I love that I'm able to do this in a way that both gives people the chance to study and write about things they already love, and maybe build some bridges to things they would not have otherwise encountered that they might also love," Burt said.

Shannen Doherty says her cancer has spread to her bones: ‘I don’t want to die’

Shannen Doherty says her cancer has spread to her bones: ‘I don’t want to die’

Actress Shannen Doherty revealed her stage 4 breast cancer has spread to her bones, less than a year after it spread to her brain.

“I don’t want to die,” the “Beverly Hills, 90210″ star told People for a cover story published Wednesday.

She continued, “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better.”

The 52-year-old was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. In 2017, she revealed her cancer was in remission. But in 2019, it returned, and she was diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 cancer.

“When you ask yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I get cancer?’ and then ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?’ that leads you to look for the bigger purpose in life,” she said. “It’s insane to me we still don’t have a cure.”

She hopes to raise funds for cancer research and prove that people with cancer can still work and contribute.

“People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age – ‘You’re done, you’re retired,’ and we’re not,” she said. “We’re vibrant, and we have such a different outlook on life. We are people who want to work and embrace life and keep moving forward.”

Doherty’s dark humor led her to jokingly name her brain tumor Bob when her cancer spread earlier this year. In June, she revealed on Instagram that she had the surgery to remove the brain tumor five months earlier “He had to get removed and dissected to see his pathology,” she wrote at the time. “It was definitely one of the scariest things I’ve ever been through in my entire life.”

Now that the cancer is in her bones, the “Charmed” star is hoping to be accepted into clinical trials for new treatments.

“My greatest memory is yet to come,” she said. “I pray. I wake up and go to bed thanking God, praying for the things that matter to me without asking for too much. It connects me to a higher power and spirituality. My faith is my mantra.”

Cleveland native becomes new owner of ‘A Christmas Story’ House in Tremont

Cleveland native becomes new owner of ‘A Christmas Story’ House in Tremont

When you knock on the door to “A Christmas Story” House in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, you won’t find the Parker family inside...

But there’s officially a new owner of the popular tourist attraction to turn the infamous leg lamp light on. A Christmas Story House and Museum announced on Nov. 28 that it has reached an agreement for a change of ownership.

The current CEO, Joshua Dickerson, is taking an equity stake in the company to become Managing Partner, the company announced.

A Christmas Story House and Museum shared the following statement:

“A native Clevelander, Mr. Dickerson has been with the company for almost 16 years having assisted friends and family in their jobs at the company before being hired himself as a warehouse employee. Over the years Mr. Dickerson worked his way up to eventually become the CEO. While the face of the company has long been the founder, Brian Jones, the true work, and performance has been borne by Mr. Dickerson behind the scenes. It seemed only fitting that he should take the final step and become an owner. There are few things more fulfilling and rewarding in life than owning your own business. Congratulations Josh.”

Dickerson explains he has no plans to re-invent the wheel.

“Operations as normal. I know a lot of people were nervous. It’s staying in Cleveland, it’s staying open, I like to think we’re running a wonderful operation here so there’s really nothing to change.” he said. ” “I love all things Cleveland and it’s an awesome opportunity to represent something iconic and so known. I love this place, it’s part of me, it’s part of my family and I will take care of it like it’s one of my children. It’s an awesome opportunity,” said Dickerson.

The announcement comes just a couple weeks after the Greater Cleveland Film Commission is hosting Peter Billingsley, aka Ralphie, for Behind the Camera: “A Christmas Story” Official 40th Anniversary.

It was his first-ever public reunion with the cast since making the film, and his first-ever signing.

An event in Hamilton on Wednesday evening paid tribute to an iconic episode from "WKRP in Cincinnati" called "Turkeys Away."

Hamilton businesses, the Hamilton Fire Department and fans of the old show got together in a clever tribute to the episode, dropping 120 rubber ducks dressed as turkeys from a fire truck, to simulate them falling out of the helicopter like in the TV show.

The American sitcom aired from 1978 through 1982, featuring the misadventures of a Cincinnati radio station. And the "turkey drop" episode is by far the most iconic, first airing on Oct. 30, 1978.

Forty live turkeys were dropped from a helicopter onto an unsuspecting Cincinnati shopping mall below. In what was supposed to be a Thanksgiving giveaway promotion, the station's hapless manager — Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson — decided to drop live turkeys from a helicopter.

Les Nessman, the station's newsman, provided the play-by-play as the carnage unfolded.

"One just went through the windshield of a parked car. This is terrible. Oh, the humanity!" Nessman recapped.

The rubber ducks were $10 each, with half of the money raised supporting the Butler County Veterans Memorial Wall. The other half went to the person whose duck came closest to the target upon landing.

The event was held at the Casual Pint Hamilton parking lot at Riverfront Plaza.

The fiasco ends as Carlson, covered with feathers, returns to the station and mutters the iconic line, "As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

Two occupants of car killed in explosion at Rainbow Bridge In Niagara Falls NY

Two occupants of car killed in explosion at Rainbow Bridge

Two occupants of a car that exploded after it sped the wrong way into an inspection booth at the Rainbow Bridge were killed in the blast, according to law enforcement sources at the scene.

The Wednesday morning incident shut down all international crossings in the Western New York area.

Traveling down Niagara Street, the car sped onto the bridge plaza, went through a fence separating the inbound lanes from the outbound lanes, and toward the inspection lanes where it exploded, according to law enforcement sources.

Two occupants in the car were killed in the explosion.

A border protection agent was injured in the blast. He's being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, sources said.

Patrol cars representing multiple local police agencies, including the Niagara Falls Police Department and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, responded to the scene following the incident that witnesses told the Niagara Gazette occurred at around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The FBI's field office in Buffalo said in a statement that it was investigating the explosion on the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the two countries across the Niagara River.

Photos and video taken by news organizations and posted on social media showed a security booth that had been singed by flames.

Further information wasn't immediately available.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said she had been briefed on the incident and was “closely monitoring the situation.”

The Rainbow Bridge is one of four border crossings connecting Ontario to western New York.

The others are Lewiston, Whirlpool and Peace Bridge. The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission reports all four crossings are closed.

City files motion to hold Colonial Village receivership group responsible for relocation costs

 LOCAL NEWS

City files motion to hold Colonial Village receivership group responsible for relocation costs

Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein said that those with young children and those living in units in disrepair have been relocated to temporary offsite housing.

The City of Columbus is taking further action against the former property manager and current receiver of a troubled apartment complex on the city’s east side.

According to Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein’s office, officials filed a motion to add the current receiver and former property manager of Colonial Village as defendants in the nuisance property case before the Environmental Court. The move will allow the city to ask the court to hold the lender, current receiver and former property manager in contempt of a court order to improve safety, security and living conditions. The city also filed a motion on Tuesday to hold the receivership group responsible for covering the cost of relocating residents and families to temporary housing. The property leadership has reportedly declined to cover the costs associated with relocation. “The City is taking legal action to hold accountable those who failed to abide by the Court’s order to improve safety and security and bring Colonial Village into compliance. Now, hundreds of hundreds of residents and families are left wondering what comes next,” said Klein. “The City will continue to take appropriate legal action where necessary to hold parties accountable and require them to cover the cost of relocating families. Taxpayers should not be on the hook for the actions that result from derelict landlords.”

City and county officials have partnered with local health and human service organizations to offer resources to the more than 800 affected residents. Some of the help being provided includes housing relocation, food assistance, legal services, job search assistance and education resources.

Klein said that those with young children and those living in units in disrepair have been relocated to temporary offsite housing.

Prior to the motions being filed, Klein’s office gave the Colonial Village management company, Capstone Real Estate Services, and the lender a Nov. 10 deadline for a plan to address the issues at the apartment complex. Klein’s spokesperson said that the deadline wasn’t met and the city filed two lawsuits: one in common pleas and the other in environmental courts.

One resident gave  a look at the conditions she’s been faced with since she moved to Colonial Village apartments in 2021.

She showed that her bathtub leaked anytime she ran a bath, which then leaked into the unit below her. She must cover the peeling and cracked linoleum in the bathroom with a bathmat. There’s also a gaping hole in the living room carpet below what appears to be water damage or mold on the ceiling.

A woman in one portion of the complex has taken it upon herself to help the large Haitian population that now lives in the buildings. She expressed her frustration with the living conditions at the property that some are subjected to.

“It's like... God.. it's very frustrating. Sometimes I go home and I scream. If it weren't for my German Shepherd, I wouldn't come outside,” said LaToya Bonner.

She said many of the Haitian families were put into the condemned properties and then charged a high price for rent by someone.

“When they say they're paying the rent at $1,200? $1,200? No, never that. Now that I know they don't have light and gas. I don't know what agreement they had with whoever they made it with,” she said.

Couple says bank won’t take jug of 30,000 pennies they have been saving for over 10 years

Couple says bank won’t take jug of 30,000 pennies they have been saving for over 10 years

It’s the ultimate change jar.

A Minnesota couple has a 5-gallon jug filled with tens of thousands of pennies, but they don’t know what to do with it.

John Becker said his wife has been saving pennies for years and now they have a jug full of them.

Becker estimates they have about $300 worth of pennies.

“She has been saving these pennies for more than 10 years but now the bank won’t take them,” Becker said.

The Beckers said they do their banking at Border Bank near their home in Coon Rapids.

According to the branch president, they gladly accept loose coins, but not in such a heavy container.

“It would be too heavy to lift, and the coins would get jammed in the neck of the container. If the customer can move the coins to smaller buckets without a neck, we’d be happy to process,” the branch president shared.

The couple said while they wait to figure out what to do with the pennies, they are continuing to save them.

“They’re everywhere. I pick them up for my wife because she still likes to save them,” Becker said.

Becker’s wife says she would be willing to negotiate a price if someone wants to take the jug off their hands.

John Stamos and Lori Loughlin reunited on TikTok, dancing together like they used to do on '90s TGIF fave Full House.
In the clip, Stamos is doing a little two-step to the Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers duet "Islands in the Stream" when Loughlin sneaks up behind him and joins in stride, to Stamos' feigned surprise
Stamos starred as Jesse Katsopolis for all eight seasons of the original run of Full House, and was joined by Loughlin as his love interest Rebecca Donaldson in season two. The pair eventually married in season four.
"She wasn't really the architect of any of it. She was in the way background. She didn't know what was going on," Stamos said of Loughlin's role in the scandal last November.

Stamos, who is currently promoting his new memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, revealed last month, ahead of its release, that he had considered dating Loughlin IRL.

Both participated in the reboot, Fuller House on Netflix, though Loughlin was dismissed from season 5 after she was arrested in connection with the college admissions scandal in 2019.

Dana Carvey Son Dex Died From A Accidental Overdose

“Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy,” Carvey wrote. “Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.”
“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, film-making, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately,” he continued. “It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends, and his girlfriend, Kaylee.”

FedEx Accidentally Delivers $20,000 In Lottery Tickets To Woman's House

FedEx accidentally delivers $20,000 in lottery tickets to woman's house

What would you do if you received $20,000 worth of scratch tickets in the mail by accident?

That’s exactly what happened to Danielle Alexandrov of Falmouth, Massachusetts.

“I start going through the boxes, everything is normal until I get a box that is very heavy,” she said. “I open it up and it's a box of scratch tickets. And I’m thinking, 'is this a joke?' until I look at the receipt and its value is $20,000 worth of scratch tickets.”

The tickets were supposed to be delivered to nearby Kenyon’s Market, a well-known lottery store in East Falmouth. The store had no comment.

Alexandrov returned the tickets to the Massachusetts Lottery, which, according to lottery officials, is the correct thing to do.

"These tickets, until they're activated by a retail agent, there's really no value to them," Christian Teja, with the Massachusetts Lottery, said. "If someone tried to take one of these tickets, if it was a winning ticket, brought it to a retail location, there would be a message that would flag it and they'd be unable to catch the ticket."

FedEx has not responded.

Target Has Mistakenly Sent More Than 100 Packages In Nearly A Week

Kelly Witter said it all started a little over a year ago when she received a box addressed to her but with an order meant for someone else.

“It was one to two boxes per month, and we called, and they said, ‘Oops, sorry for the inconvenience and we’ll fix this,’ but it kept happening,” Witter said.

According to Witter, it then turned into three to four boxes a month.

Rosalynn Carter The Former First Lady Of The United States, has Died At Age 96

REST IN PEACE | Rosalynn Carter, the former First Lady of the United States, has died at age 96, the Carter Center announced.

Rosalynn Carter, the former First Lady of the United States who changed what it meant to serve in that role, has died. She was 96.

The Carter Center said the 96-year-old former first lady had died peacefully with family by her side.

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” former President Jimmy Carter said in a statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

On Friday, Carter had entered hospice care at home in Plains, Georgia. The family announced earlier this year that the former first lady had been diagnosed with dementia. The former president, now 99, entered hospice care at home in February.

Eleanor Rosalynn Smith was born in Plains, Georgia on August 18, 1927. She was the eldest of four children. When she was 13, her father, Wilburn Edgar Smith, died of leukemia. Rosalynn was forced to take charge of her family while her mother got a job.

She later credited her mother, Frances Allethea Murray Smith, with infusing her with a sense of independence.

"I learned from my mother you can do what you have to do," she told the Chicago Tribune in 2002.

Rosalynn attended Plains High School and graduated from Georgia Southwestern College in 1946.

Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter were married on July 7, 1946 – one month before Rosalynn’s 19th birthday. They had three sons over the next six years -- John William, James Earl III and Donnel Jeffrey – and then waited another 15 years before having a daughter, Amy.

She was a full partner with Jimmy in business and as he entered local, state and national politics. Jimmy declared Rosalynn was the “only politician in the family” – and he meant it.

Her unmatched ferocity to win was cloaked in her gracious Southern charms, earning her the nickname “Steel Magnolia”.   Rosalynn and Jimmy also hold the record of the longest-married couple in presidential history – with the couple celebrating their 77th wedding anniversary on July 7, 2023.

Rosalynn leaves behind her husband, four children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

“There are only four kinds of people in the world - those who have been caregivers, those who are caregivers, those who will be caregivers and those who will need caregivers.”
